OK, so today…it’s all about ME…to celebrate ME…because it’s my birthday today…and I’m 33! Somethings are crazy, some maybe shouldn’t be mentioned out loud, but all in all here is just a completely random list of really random things that help make up who I am today.
1.) When I was little, me and my sister used to dress up like Native Americans…my mom sewed us costumes and we wore our hair in two braids.
2.) One time after I graduated high school, a group of friends and I scaled the Philadelphia art museum..as in walked around the perimeter of the building on a teeny ledge. That’s the sort of things we did for “fun”, and I can’t believe I never got arrested!
3.) I never partied in high school. My friends were all “straight edge”.
4.) I consider popcorn popped in coconut oil topped with nutritional yeast and sliced cucumbers with hummus a well rounded meal.
5.) I am a sucker for animals…a complete sucker.
6.) I haven’t worn deodorant in over 8 years.
7.) As a teenager, I would get up super early and watch the sun rise over a nearby lake. I would sit for an hour there and “talk” to God.
8.) I have never drank a soda in my entire life.
9.) Sometimes I put my kids in the car when we are about to leave to go somewhere, and come back in the house to vacuum, clean up, or check my email. Alone time (just for 5 seconds) is hard to come by with 4 kids!
10.) I probably do not drink enough water each day.
11.) I had my first job when I was 15…at an ice cream shop. One night I made someone a banana split. Later that night, when I couldn’t fall asleep, I realized that I had forgotten to put the banana in it. I have always wondered if he realized.
12.) I feel best when I come home to a clean house, or at least tidied up. It’s like a welcome home treat.
13.) I like flip flops.
14.) Cucumbers might just be one of my favorite vegetables this season. Seems so simple, but we eat pounds of them over here.
15.) I love to write. I love the process of writing. I love how it has the power to open my heart and shine it back at me.
16.) I don’t feel old, but when I think about my children getting older, I know I must be too. I just don’t see it yet.
17.) I do not like to be in crowds or crowded places. I’d rather be home.
18.) One time, on a 2 day canoe trip, I forgot my sandals on the shore. When we ended our trip, I had to buy new shoes.
19.) For my 12th birthday my parents took me for a little 6 seat airplane ride by our house. We drove over our house and my school and I thought it was one of the coolest birthday presents ever.
20.) Sometimes I struggle with perfectionism, with how I want things to look or be like. Letting go to my expectations can feel amazingly empowering.
21.) On my 21st birthday I ate candy in someones backyard.
22.) When we go on outings I usually dress my two year old in a bright orange shirt so I can easily spot him. I never thought I would be that kind of mom.
23.) When I was little and “supposed” to be taking a nap, I would spend that time jumping on my bed as I high as I could, as much as I could…till the Ragedy Ann and Andy latch hook rug my mom made me would fall off the wall and on top of me, then I would quick pretend like I was sleeping so when my mom came in to see what happened she would “think” I was asleep. I don’t think I fooled her.
24.) I love the mountains; being in the mountains; breathing in mountain air.
25.) I love taking pictures and capturing small bits of beauty wherever I go.
26.) My children teach me new lessons each and every day. I try my best to hear them.
27.) Eating dinner outside is one of my favorite things about summer.
28.) One time I was playing in my room and riped a chunk of dry wall out of my wall. I was hanging on some wall hooks…using them to do gymnastics. I guess I can’t really wonder where my kids get their craziness!
29.) I love when my kids give me flowers, even when they are picked out of our flower beds.
30.) My feet need to stick out of the covers at night when it is hot and sometimes I can’t even stand to be under the covers at all.
31.) I wear a size 10 shoe.
32.) In college my friends and I “borrowed” (~ahem), a U Haul van to drive down to Delaware to have naked races down the beach and go skinny dipping in the ocean. Crazy I tell you…we weren’t out drinking or partying, but boy were we crazy!
33.) Sometimes I get mad. Sometimes I get frustrated. Sometimes I scream. Sometimes I cry. I am human.
For more randomness, you can check out my 32 tidbits to celebrate ME post from last year. I tried not to duplicate any, but…it was hard! If I keep this up you will know everything there is to possibly know about me in no time at all!

Lisa! I love your 33 list as much as last year's list. You have a beautiful smile and an amazing appreciation of life.
Have a wonderful birthday!
Happy Birthday Lisa! I'm so glad that we met 7 years ago?, you are an inspiration! Your tidbits make me see how it was easy to be friends with you, (the banana split thing is something I could see myself doing, the well rounded meal you described was just one reason I loved coming to your house, I'm still a little kid in that way, I have to refrain from asking most people what's their making when they ask me over for dinner, but not you, I know it will be something amazing!, and thank you for bringing beauty from your life into mine!) You are an amazing lady! Keep up the good work!
oh, that's sweet of you Lisa. : ) No, about the time I had Eli at 36, I started to look and feel a bit older. : ) But, being over 40 isn't such a big deal. K
I was kinda thinking that this year too! That I liked the number 33…kinda magical. We will have a happy 3-3 year together!
Lisa
Ahhh, to have the freedom to drive to the mountains for a sunrise…that makes the best of memories.
Lisa
Thanks Renee. I have kept the braids ever since. Sometimes I feel like a kid in my braids, but I love them!
Lisa
It's funny what people so far apart can find out they have in common sometimes. Glad you enjoyed my list.
Lisa
No way! You look so young! I figured we were about the same age. Must be the gluten free keeping us young. Tee hee.
Lisa
Yea, I just never liked it as a kid so I didn't drink it. Then when I got older I thought it was too nasty to drink and figured I wasn't missing much. Kinda glad of it actually.
Lisa
…and then they say, "Are we there yet? Why is it taking us so long to get there?" And I think to myself, probablly because you sat in the car for a good 15 minutes extra.
Lisa
Thank you so much Marina!
Lisa
So glad to hear I'm not the only one putting my kid in brightly colored shirts when we are out and about!
Lisa
Happy belated birthday to you! Hope you had a wonderful celebration!
Lisa
Happy happy birthday! I hope you have an amazing year:) I loved your list! Wild and fun!! We are the same age:) one tidbit about me…33 is my all time favorite number:) xoxo, pennie
Happy Birthday. I love #9. Sometimes I do that with the daycare, get everyone to the door and then sweep up, or straighten. NEVER occurred to me to do it with my kids, and buckled in the car- gonna try that. I did do some similarly crazy teenage stuff, totally sober too. Jumped off a bridge, as in, if your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too. Yes, apparently. And we drove to the mountains one night to watch the sun rise, and were back for breakfast. Silly silly, and sooo much fun!
happy birthday, lisa! we are the same age.
you are beautiful and inspiring. have a great day!
Wonderful list.
Happy 3-3!

my first job was when I was 15 at an ice cream shop, too. Do you remember the blisters you'd get from scooping that hard ice cream?

Happy Birthday Lisa! What a fantastic list! Especially loved #15! You are a fantastic writer (photogrpager, mother)! Hope your day (and year) is filled with blessings!
Happy Birthday! And there is NOTHING wrong with putting your kid in a brightly colored shirt so you can find him — I do the same thing with Nathan, and we barely even go anywhere! I just want him to stand out from all the green around our house. : )
I did a similar series of posts called A Few Things You May Not Know About Me. They're fun to write, aren't they?

Happy Birthday! We are only a week apart in our celebrations, but I celebrated 40 last week. Yes you are right about the letting go of expectations…it is empowering. That way I love how things surprise me by just being right. Have crazy day. Lou x
