Baby Surprise Jacket: currently on row 83; I’m thinking I am going to have to add some length to the sleeves. Is there anyone who ever winds up with a BSJ with long enough sleeves?

Better Off: Flipping the Switch on Technology
“Still, for now the crank-handled machine offered Mary surprisingly little resistance. Having received the tip that two hundred strokes completes a load, she stopped turning after about three minutes. The load was clean. She pulled each sopping item through the rubber ringer and dropped it into a basket.”

Yarn Along with Ginny

That book sounds fascinating & that yarn is gorgeous! I knit a BSJ for my daughter when she was about one. It was quite a interesting knit, for sure!
She’s 4 now & I’m just getting started on a new sweater for her 5th birthday. Have a great day!
We watched a DVD on Uruguay last night (our latest obsession) and in Cabo Polonio a woman washed a load of laundry in a washing machine that was powered by a bicycle.
So cool.
I owe you a phone call!
What is the yarn you are using? I love the colors!
It is super colorful that’s for sure! The yarn I am using is called “ella rae::classic sand art”. It doesn’t specify a color name, but the color is 1616 and it is 100% wool
Thanks Lisa! I just went to Jimmy Beans wool website and it’s on sale!
AWESOME! That is wonderful Dawn. The yarn is so stripey and wonderful. I’m sure you will find something great to do with it.
Oh, love those colors together, that will make a nice and bright little jacket for sure! I read Better Off a year or so ago – what an inspiring experiment that was!
It definitely makes you think!
Your BSJ will be so cute! I have noticed that the sleeves on BSJs are more like 3/4 length sleeves in all the pictures I’ve seen (never knit one). I thought they were supposed to be that way!
Yes, I do think they are just 3/4 sleeves, at least it appears so in all the pictures I have ever seen, but I can’t say that is totally functional? I dunno. I just live where it is sooooo cold, so I just feel like the sleeves should be longer. I’ll just throw in some double pointeds and add some length. Although this is all saying so without even trying it on my little guy!
Better Off was such a good read I re-read it again last year! I wrote a blog post about it a couple years ago. I wish Eric Brende would write another book! Now, if I could only read and knit at the same time… that would be wonderful.
Yea, him and his family sound like they would be fun to meet too!!
Better Off has been on my wish list, must really move that to my cart.
That is an adorable sweater Lisa, I always knit baby items a little longer
so they can get used a little before they are outgrown…in a week;)
Yes, do. Even though I don’t plan on going off the grid or living like the Amish tomorrow….it is definitely a mentality I think about often. Inspiring! And inspiration always leads somewhere….
What beautiful colors!!!
And that book has been on my list for quite some time. I will have to bump it up my cue. Love your blog! As a wannabe homesteader, its exciting to find others with similar interests and journeys!
Thanks!! That’s one of my most fav parts about blogging too!! As a homesteader….definitely a good book to read.
Would love to hear what you think of this book. Looking for a book club recommendation this summer.
Absolutely! I definitely think it would be a great discussion book. Talk about what may or may not be a feasible change for each person. Why or why not. Inspiring and good food for thought on all the small things we can all choose to do to make a positive impact in our world.
such a pretty sweater. i am giggling at the thought of too short sleeves on a wee baby and having to make tiny wrist warmers.
That would be funny!
I really enjoyed that book!
The colours in your BSJ are lovely. Hope you are all feeling better!
Thanks Rachel…I am happy to say that I am finally starting to feel better. It has been a very long drawn out flu~ish cold. Lots of resting, sitting, and uneventful~ness over the past few weeks.
love those colors on your BSJ! can’t wait to see it all complete.
Me too! I should have it done by the end of the week I’m thinking.
Lovely yarn you are knitting with. And I love the sound of your book, adding it to my list.
Thanks Kim. It is definitely a good read so far.
That looks like a great read! I may have to check it out of the library. And a BSJ is on my short list of things to try someday. Right now I am working on a little sheepy for my daughter!
